From Askew Road
Wellington Street starts at Askew Road, where it passes under the railway on an iron-decked bridge with a headroom of 15 ft 3 in, and runs up two-way to the old Railway Club corner at Half Moon Lane. From there, past the arches, it is one-way towards Askew Road: the way out of the estate. The council’s “Gateshead Railway Quarter” lettering is on the bridge abutment at the Askew Road junction, like the lettering on High Level Road and Hills Street. See getting in and out for the full loop.

The Railway Quarter lettering on the bridge where Wellington Street meets Askew Road. September 2026.
The arches
The arches are numbered with even numbers, and the same numbers serve as High Level Parade addresses: a sign over two of the arches reads High Level Parade, and Microbus gives its address as 2 High Level Parade. Either form should find the door.
| Arch | Occupant |
|---|---|
| 2 | Microbus |
| 4 | Mushu Tattoo |
| 6 | Empty (September 2026) |
| 8 | WazzKutz |
| 10 | Bertie’s Shirts |
| 12 | Victor Indigo November |

The Microbus end, September 2026.
The open archway a few arches along from Microbus is not a unit: it is a right of way and bin store through the viaduct. It leads from Wellington Street to the private car park for the Half Moon flats, and from there two flights of steps, one either side of the smaller of the two Curzon Place buildings, drop down to Curzon Place. On foot it is the short way between Wellington Street and Curzon Place, the Hilton entrance and Bottle Bank.
Recorded on the ground, September 2026. The odd numbers are across the street: Bridgewater Interiors at 1–7, across the ground floor of Wellington House, the listed building on the Half Moon Lane corner; then Sereniti Health at 9–11 and Kings Church at 15, in the ground floor of Worsdell House, the former Railway Club. Whether Royal Mail’s address file uses the arch numbers, the High Level Parade numbers or both is not yet checked.
