Who
Written and maintained by Andy Redfern, who lives on the estate. Corrections and additions from neighbours are what keep it accurate: report a correction.
The boundary
There is no official line around Ochre Yards and the Railway Quarter, so we drew one. It follows the railway from the King Edward VII Bridge east to the corner of Brandling Street and Oakwellgate, runs along Cannon Street and down Church Street and Bridge Street to the Swing Bridge, and takes the south bank of the Tyne back to the King Edward VII Bridge. The railway side follows the south face of the viaduct, so the arches are in.
The council counts Brandling Street as part of the Railway Quarter, and the Glasshouse, its car park and St Mary’s as part of the Quays; this line keeps to both. Anything outside it that we list is tagged Nearby: a short walk away, or the nearest of its kind.
What it is for
A findable, dated reference for residents, for people thinking of moving here, and for visitors — the things that get asked in the Facebook group every month, written down once and kept current. The conversation itself stays in the Ochre Yards Residents group.
How facts are marked
Every researched fact carries a tag: C confirmed by a named source or on the ground, L likely, U unverified and recorded as a gap. Every page shows when it was last checked. Public-record facts name the record.
What the site will never do
Place a living person at an address. Characterise a company’s service, a person’s conduct or a block’s residents. Publish anyone’s service-charge figures unless they supply them. Carry advertising.
Money
It costs a domain renewal a year to run and is paid for by its editor. The live data comes from public APIs listed on the data sources page.
