High Level Road curving under a stone railway arch lettered Gateshead Railway Quarter, with a 12 ft 3 in headroom sign; the High Level Bridge approach on the left, Kenilworth House on the right, a red bus beyond the arch on Wellington Street
High Level Road runs under the railway through the signed Railway Quarter arch and joins Wellington Street on the other side. Headroom 12 ft 3 in. September 2026.

At its east end High Level Road passes under the railway viaduct through the arch lettered “Gateshead Railway Quarter”, between the High Level Bridge approach and Kenilworth House, and joins Wellington Street on the far side. The arch has a headroom limit of 12 ft 3 in (about 3.7 m): check before booking a high-sided removal van or a large delivery.

Kenilworth House and Fairway Court stand along the top of the original retaining wall that separated the railway works from the hillside running down to the river. Both look out over High Level Road, but neither has a way in from it.
