The mural runs round the corner of a small car park off Brandling Street, opposite the door of Albany Contract Furniture and next to the back door of Raval. It is a cartoon view of the streets around it: The Central, lettered and with its arched ground floor, traffic lights and a stop sign, a white tower lettered Hilton, children with balloons crossing the road by a no-stopping sign, a row of trees, a large black Mercedes, and the green arch of the Tyne Bridge at the far end.
It is signed. “Hendaz” is painted on the Mercedes’ number plate and again, with “H-Man”, above The Central, and “S.M.P. Crew” is written along the bottom. A 2016 post on the Culture Vulture NE blog describes a car park on Brandling Street whose owner commissioned a local graffiti group to design a colourful, North East-themed piece as a talking point for visiting clients, which fits this mural, so it dates from 2016 or before. Neither the owner nor the group is named there, and we haven’t confirmed that Hendaz and S.M.P. Crew are that group.
Parts of the render have broken away, taking pieces of the painting with them, and later tags have been sprayed over The Central. The car park is private: look from the street.

The Central end of the mural. October 2026.
