Tyne Bridge restoration: east parapet and screen plates
Grit blasting and repainting inside the scaffolding on the east side, and repairs within the deck void. The west parapet and all road-deck steelwork are finished. Repairs and painting of the lower sections are due to finish by the end of 2026; that end date is the project's expectation, not a promise. Closures to build the scaffolding deck over the road for the arch work are listed separately below.

Tyne Bridge closed to everyone for ten days
No access for vehicles, pedestrians or cyclists over October half-term, while crews work around the clock to build a scaffolding deck over the road for the arch restoration. Drivers are asked to avoid central Newcastle and Gateshead and use the A1, the A19 Tyne Tunnel or Scotswood Bridge; on foot or by bike, use another river crossing: the High Level Bridge footway stays open (AmcoGiffen's list of closures, seen 10 October). Signed diversions.

Schedule last updated 10 Oct 2026. AmcoGiffen's site office at the top of Half Moon Lane is running Network Rail's work on the High Level Bridge and is the place to ask about its programme. Know of a closure that isn't here? Tell us.
